Dirt moves!

Location! Location! Location!

Dirt moves on the 3000 sf Aperture Home, located in Tonto Hills, Arizona, near Bartlett Lake just north of Scottsdale. Designed by Phoenix Architect Eric Spry of Spry Architecture. The modern home sits on a shallow hill enjoying 180 degrees of views including the Gold Mountains. Arizona architecture enjoys unique opportunities with nearly 300 days of sunlight and extraordinary distant views of mountain, city lights and pristine Sonoran Desert. The site chosen by Atlanta, GA residents Phil and Mandy Kaufman has all the benefits of an Arizona desert lot.

The Aperture Home is a minimalist modern home, a design reduced to its necessary elements. No more and no less. Like a minimalist painting. The floor plan follows the 180-degree line of views, allowing mountain and desert vistas from every room in the home other than the garage. Fourteen-foot-tall glass under a deep overhang provides the Great Room an aperture to the views including the blue sky. The deep overhang encloses a 525 sf outdoor patio with pool and gas firepit.

Arizona weather is perfect for outdoor living!

Simple detailing highlights the modern home; thin fascia profiles, smooth stucco, stone veneer and exposed steel trellis. All the glass windows go to the ceiling and are protected under deep overhangs.

Arizona contractor, The ModHaus Group https://www.modhausgroup.com/ (Dan Barnes and Michele Williams) with Craig Smith as the project superintendent, began excavation last week. The exterior walls of the home are designed with Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS). http://www.sips.org/. Architect Eric Spry and ModHaus continue to hammer out connection details that achieve the simple and clean aesthetic envisioned with the original design.

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
